چکیده

Abstract Background Carotid intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) is considered a strong marker of histologically defined plaque vulnerability leading to cerebrovascular ischemic events. Cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) represent hemorrhage-prone small vessel disease and they are common finding on brain MRI in patients with disease. However, the potential mechanism risk for CMBs not clear. The characteristics carotid lesions have been relevant relationship between artery atherosclerosis presence CMBs. association IPH has investigated yet. Purpose We previously reported prevalence non-obstructive who underwent endarterectomy (CEA). In this study, we aimed investigate whether extent related existence hypothesized that would higher Methods This retrospective study enrolled 101 consecutive undergoing CEA symptomatic (including stroke, TIA, amaurosis fugax) or asymptomatic ipsilateral specimens were collected at from all stained Movat Pentachrome identify (%) IPH. Incidence of symptomatic hemorrhage in patients with lobar microbleeds.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Lobar microbleeds suggestive of cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) are often identified on MRI in the absence of lobar intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). We compared the baseline characteristics and risk of subsequent ICH among such patients to those presenting with CAA-related lobar ICH. METHODS Clinical data (demographics, risk factors), apolipoprotein E genotype, neuroim...

Carotid artery intraplaque hemorrhage and stenotic velocity.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE One of the proposed mechanisms for sudden expansion of a carotid bifurcation plaque is hemorrhage within the lesion. It has been postulated that the sudden increase in plaque size will acutely reduce blood flow to the ipsilateral hemisphere and induce either a transient ischemic attack or a stroke. In this study, the relation between peak systolic velocity at the site of ...

Carotid intraplaque hemorrhage predicts recurrent symptoms in patients with high-grade carotid stenosis.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Carotid intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH), known to be associated with plaque instability, may convey a higher stroke risk. The aim of this study was to assess whether the identification of IPH by MRI predicts recurrent clinical cerebrovascular events. METHODS Sixty-six patients with high-grade symptomatic carotid stenosis underwent MRI of the carotid arteries and were follo...

Cerebral Microbleeds Predict Intracerebral Hemorrhage in Hemodialysis Patients.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE In hemodialysis patients, previous reports have described a high prevalence of cerebral microbleeds (CMBs), but no longitudinal studies have been performed to determine the clinical significance of CMBs in these patients. In this study, we investigated whether the presence of CMBs was a predictor of future strokes in hemodialysis patients. METHODS Cranial MRI, including...

Safety of protected carotid artery stenting in patients with severe carotid artery stenosis and carotid intraplaque hemorrhage.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Carotid IPH can be detected with MR imaging. The aim of this study was to determine the safety of CAS using an emboli protection device in patients with severe carotid artery stenosis and MR imaging-depicted carotid IPH. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed a prospective data base that included 91 consecutive patients with severe carotid stenosis and high-r...
